What ORCA Pods Do for a Struggling Septic System, and When They Help
An ORCA Pod is an aerobic bacteria generator, made by ORCA OWTS, that installs in an existing septic tank or seepage pit. It adds air and supports bacteria that break down solids, reduce odor and help clear the biomat that clogs pit walls. It needs constant power and yearly maintenance, and it works alongside regular inspections.
When a septic system starts to struggle, many homeowners are told the only answer is a new system. Often there is a step to try first. Bacterial treatment can restore a system that is slowing down, and it costs a fraction of a replacement. The treatment we install most is the ORCA Pod.
What it is
An ORCA Pod is an aerobic bacteria generator made by ORCA OWTS. A unit installs inside your existing septic tank, and a version is made for seepage pits. A small air pump above ground feeds it. JFPEC installs and services ORCA Pods. We don't manufacture them.
What it does
- Breaks down solids in the tank so fewer of them reach the pits.
- Cuts odor by shifting the tank toward aerobic bacteria.
- Helps clear the biomat, the organic layer that seals seepage pit walls and slows absorption.
What it needs to keep working
- Constant power. The air pump needs a dedicated exterior outlet installed by your electrician, and it has to stay on. If it gets unplugged for a while, the treatment has to be restarted.
- Yearly maintenance. A yearly visit checks and cleans the unit, checks the pit water level and adds bacteria.
- Normal septic habits. No wipes, grease or harsh chemicals down the drains.
The air pump sits above ground to protect it from moisture and heat. A faux-rock cover hides it well.
When it makes sense
- Pits that are slow to drain but structurally sound.
- Odor problems around the tank.
- Systems where roots have been cleared and the pit needs to recover.
- Owners who want to try restoring a system before paying for a replacement.
When it isn't enough
Bacteria can't fix a collapsed pit, a broken tank or a system that is too small for the house. Pumping and inspections still have a place in the care of a treated system. That is why we inspect first and recommend treatment only where it fits. Read the signs of a failing seepage pit to see where it fits among the other repairs.
How we help
We inspect the system, tell you whether an ORCA Pod is a good fit, install it and service it every year. Call (800) 606-3880.
